Westerville ArtsLine: September art events demonstrate transition – The Columbus Dispatch

September art experiences feature the end-of-summer crafts and classes for all ages and usher in the beginning of autumn music and theater.

September Calendar

September – Art at Java Gallery. Paintings denoting emotion and movement by Said Oladejo Lawal on display at Java Central, 20 S. State St.

Saturdays – Uptown Saturday Nights, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Live music performed at City Hall Courtyard, 21 S. State St. For listings of performers, go to westerville.org/about-westerville/events-calendar.

Sept. 2, 9, 16 & 30 – Uptown Friday Nights, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Live music on the sidewalks is provided by the Westerville Uptown Merchants Association.

Sept. 3, 10, 17 & 24 – Live Music at Java Central Café, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Acts include The Castros, String Theory and Long Tall Deb and Colin John. Free at 20 S. State St.

Sept. 3, 10 & 17 – Kids’ crafts at Saturday farmers market, 9 a.m. to noon at Arts Council of Westerville’s tent, 21 S. State St., behind City Hall.

Sept. 7 – “Poison Study” Author Maria V. Snyder, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Best-selling author discusses her popular fantasy romance book about a poison taster. Register at westervillelibrary.org.

Sept. 9-18 – Ohio Open Doors sponsored by Ohio History Connection. Westerville features 19 total events and 10 locations, including Inspired – Gallery of Fine Arts, The Frank Museum of Art and Otterbein’s Fisher and Miller Galleries. For more information, visit ohiohistory.org/ood.

Sept. 13 – Crafting with the Council, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Participants create a message or an original painting on a decorative pillow cover. No painting experience needed. Good Vibes Winery, 2 S. State St. Fee includes supplies and two glasses of wine. Register at artscouncilofwesterville.com.

Sept. 18 – Community Arts & Crafts, 2 to 8 p.m. Art fun provided by Arts Council of Westerville at Westerville Education Foundation’s “Grow and Glow” at Minerva France Elementary, 4990 Farview Road.

Sept. 19 – Arts Council of Westerville meeting, 5:30 p.m. Attend at Blair IT, 653 McCorkle Blvd., Suite L.

Sept. 20 – Sip & Sketch Art Session: Meet Me at the Lake, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Participants will use acrylic on canvas, guided by the artist, at Good Vibes Winery, 2 S. State St. Registration at artscouncilofwesterville.com includes supplies and wine.

Sept. 22-24 – “Simply Staged” Dramatic Readings. Readings of works by local playwrights include Sept. 22, “Sowing the Seeds of Trust” by Heather Schultz; Sept. 23, “Suadade” by Cory Skurdal; and Sept. 24, “There’s Something in the Wind” by Richard Bloo. Sept. 22-25, 29, 30 & Oct. 1 – “A Little Night Music.” Otterbein Theatre presents the tangled web of love affairs featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim at Fritsche Theatre, Cowan Hall. For details, go to otterbein.edu/theatre-performances.

Sept. 23 – Arts at Fourth Friday Festival, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Original art, music by SoundCheck and a craft for kids is sponsored by Arts Council of Westerville at Arts Alley on West Main Street.

Sept. 25 – Auditions: “Goodbye, Freddy.” Auditions for the drama/comedy featuring six adult friends will be held at Curtain Players theater. For times and details, go to curtainplayers.org.
